The Cambrian Coast Railway runs from Machynlleth in Powys to Pwllheli in Gwynedd (on the Llyn Peninsula). Pwllheli is a market town of some 5000 people in the district of Dwyfor in North West Wales.
It has a modern marina and harbour with over 400 berths, two long beaches stretching four miles East towards Penychain and four miles West towards Llanbedrog. A beautiful place in the summer, it can be very wild in the winter, battered by Westerly winds and storms. An excellent place to windsurf is Abersoch, five miles or so West of Pwllheli. The mountains of the peninsula are lower than those of Eryri / Snowdonia and the principals of these - Yr Eifl and Gyrn Ddu can be explored via the Llyn Heritage Coastline; offering views from Caernarfon through Eryri along Harlech & the Rhinog mountains over Cadair Idris to Aberdyfi.
